How was permission granted to run this series of events?

Once the German government let it be known that professional players were allowed to train and play under regulatory guidelines, it was recognized that Base Tennis premises had the capability to comply with all necessary measures to operate this event.

Which organizations have granted approval for event?

A thorough study of all documents issued by the government’s health administration as well as the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) has been performed and every single guideline will be followed during all Exo-Tennis Events.
Upon careful examination of the event’s plan and procedures, prior approval was granted by Germany’s Ministerium für Soziales, Arbeit, Gesundheit und Demographie (Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography) as well as the Gesundheitsamt Montabaur Arbeitsgemeinschaft “Corona” (Montabaur’s Health department, “Corona” section.
Exo-Tennis is committed to strictly following all guidelines imposed by such organizations, keeping players and staff safety as the most important objective.

Which specific measures are being taken to make sure Exo-Tennis is prepared to run this competition safely?

Given what is currently known from organizations such as WHO and ECDC about how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the following measures will be strictly enforced during the event:

  • Staff and players (when not on court) are required to wash their hands hourly.
  • No pets will be allowed in the premises, unless they are service animals.
  • Hand sanitisers are to be strategically placed throughout the venue (entrance, players waiting area, bathrooms, press conference room and shop) for easy access to all players and staff.
  • Surfaces repeatedly touched by staff or players; such as doorknobs, equipment handles, check-out counters, and grocery cart handles, etc will be frequently disinfected.
  • The below signage with all basic recommendations regarding measures to control spread of the virus will be placed throughout the venue:
  • Temperature checks will be conducted upon entrance to the facility and a series of regulatory questions will be asked.
  • We will have staff members focused on routinely disinfecting flooring on areas where the players and staff have been present.
  • Upon the conclusion of each day of activities, the facility will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with ECDC approved cleaning products.

At the premises, the below steps have been taken to diminish the possibility of contagion: 

  • No need for direct contact with any door besides the main entrance. Players and staff can go from the lounge area to the courts without getting in direct contact with any other surfaces.
  • Clearly designated areas delineating which side of the court each player is to sit.
  • Strict planning and timing for when players enter and leave the court aimed at avoiding direct contact.
  • Labelled individual locker space for bags so players have their own space.
  • With the support of our partner APA, dividers were installed so that each player has their own individual and safe space during waiting / recovery time in between matches

How will the distribution of food and beverages be administered during the event?

Regarding the distribution of food and beverages during the event, the following will take place:

  • The restaurant is closed. Vending machines offering hot beverages (coffee and tea) will be operating and buttons as well as surfaces disinfected regularly.
  • Snacks and food are pre-ordered and packaged, designated to each player and staff.
  • Players were instructed and consented to come alone. Under no circumstances are coaches, family or friends allowed to come with them.
  • Upon completion of matches, players are instructed to leave the centre immediately.
  • Press will be allowed to enter the premises in small groups, respecting the set limit of 5 square meters per person at all times.

What about on-court rules?

  • No contact between players and the umpire, such as shaking hands, will be allowed before, during and after the matches.
  • A designated area was set for the chair umpire, which is measured on court and within safe distance guidelines.
  • The players are to sit opposite of each other, changing sides walking by opposite net poles.

What is the procedure if there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 during the event?

In the case we find out any staff member or player tests positive for COVID-19 before, during or after this series, all people involved with the event are to be quarantined and the event is to be suspended.
